some wild predictions there...
ReplyDeleteno INCEPTION in EDITING, that's rare
and i would love to see JULIANNE MOORE in the best actress race but that would be a huge surprise
and also i don't get why would JULIANNE be in but MARK RUFFALO will miss
I really hope David O. Russell makes it for Best Director...
ReplyDeleteThe lack of Inception in editing was a goof. It should be in the True Grit spot. Oops.
ReplyDeleteAs for Ruffalo and Moore, that's a fair point. I think its just that the ladies each get their share of dramatic "Oscar clip" moments but Ruffalo has the the laid back character who doesn't get to cry and recite monologues. No slight against Ruffalo of course. I thought he was stellar in the role and if you read my Supporting Actor analysis you'll see I was this close to predicting him. I just had six guys for five slots and he struck me as the guy most likely to land the snub. We shall see.
Robert - You and me both. Just imagine what The Fighter would've been like without him at the helm. Cinderella Man in Massachusetts.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the Illusionist, so I really can't comment (I wish I had though, I think it was on at MIFF last year) but I can't imagine Tangled not being nominated. I pretty much go along with everything else though - at least, nothing else I can think of right now haha
ReplyDeleteRuth - I was sorta surprised myself when I left it off, but there it is. I think a good percentage of the animation branch is going to be very impressed with that film's achievement and the category has shown itself willing to go outside the usual Hollywood options in the past - Howl's Moving Castle, The Secret of Kells, Persepolis, etc.
ReplyDeleteGood picks. No love for Shutter Island's cinematography?
