Surely I can't be the first one to note that both of Sight & Sound's top two films feature scores by the same brilliant composer, Bernard Herrmann. If you look to the director's poll he does even better managing an amazing three appearances in the top ten with Scorsese's Taxi Driver ranking alongside Kane and Vertigo. Psycho was a threat to break into both lists, based in no small part, I'm sure, to Herrmann's legendary contribution.
I suspect that if Sight & Sound were to a similar poll of the greatest film scores the odds are good that Herrmann would hold onto the top position.
