I feel like Shawshank's reputation suffers a bit from our current backlash culture, i.e., if it tops IMDB's teenage male-skewing Top 250 it must be a lesser film. Darabon't subsequent career certainly hasn't helped its standing much either. I can acknowledge those who find flaws here or there or argue that it doesn't necessarily deserve its lofty perch, but I don't believe anybody who says this scene didn't rock them back on their heels.
