Next up in the best of 2012 rundown is The Graduate Award for the most memorable ending of the film year.
Zero Dark Thirty
The laser focus on Zero Dark Thirty as a piece of journalism has overshadowed the powerful ways Bigelow and Boal succeed where journalism fails. Take the closing image of a numb Jessica Chastain with tears trickling down her face in what should be her moment of triumph. No list of statistics about the cost of the war on terror can match this moment for expressing the amibguity in finally acheiveing an obssessive goal only to find that you lost sight of yourself on the journey.

this is one of my fave scenes of the year. Couldn't agree more.
